*****
This 1hr 8min film is the first (vol 1) in THE TIME IS NOW series. It was created from filming done at Birthing The Future’s 1st International Roundtable, a 5-day retreat held on the Canary Island of Tenerife. 20 women and men from 4 continents and diverse disciplines explore birth and the primal period, and how to create thriving families and nonviolent societies.
CONTENTS Include:
1) a high-risk Sri Lankan OB/GYN working in London teaching hospital, who during her own pregnancy listened to her in-womb baby and as a result changed from a hospital to a home birth, with dramatic impact on her personal life and the way she cares for her childbearing patients
2) an Egyptian-born grassroots activist and organizer working with Jews and Arabs in the Middle East, speaking about personal, social and environmental justice and sustainability and sharing how she dealt with an unplanned pregnancy
3) a social worker/educator and father who lives in the Appalachian Mountains of the U.S. and works with people who have limited education and income, talking about how to be an effective activist and get people with very different views from yours to shift their style of parenting to one that is non-violent and child-respecting
4) a young Mexican health advocate who was educated in boarding schools around the world, speaking about the views of “privileged” women regarding their bodies that are so different from her own, about birth and the mother-baby bond; the neurobiology of how to “wire” the developing baby’s brain for peace.
